Korean Skincare Technique

The 7 Skin Method

Korean toner for the 7 skin method — layering hydrating toner multiple times

The 7 skin method is a Korean skincare technique of applying hydrating toner in multiple thin layers — traditionally up to seven — rather than once. Each layer is patted gently into the skin before the next is applied. The aim is deep, lasting hydration built gradually, without relying on heavier creams or oils. Most people benefit from 3–5 layers rather than the full seven.

TL;DR — Quick Summary

  • ✦"7 skin" refers to toner — "skin" (스킨) is the Korean word for toner, not a reference to 7 skin types.
  • ✦Layer a hydrating toner 3–7 times on clean damp skin, patting each layer in before applying the next.
  • ✦Use only hydrating, alcohol-free toners — not exfoliating toners with AHAs or BHAs.
  • ✦Suits all skin types, especially dry and dehydrated skin. Oily skin benefits from 3 layers with a lightweight toner.
  • ✦Follow with the rest of your normal routine — the 7 skin method replaces your single toner step, nothing else.

How to do the 7 skin method

1

Cleanse

Cleanse as normal. Do not fully dry your face — slightly damp skin helps the first layer absorb more readily.

2

First toner layer

Pour a small amount of hydrating toner into clean palms. Press and pat gently into the skin — do not rub or wipe. Wait a few seconds.

3–6

Repeat the layers

Apply further layers in the same way. Each layer should be thin. Between layers, your skin should feel slightly tacky but not wet. Continue until you reach your target number of layers or until your skin feels plump.

Final

Continue your routine

Follow with essence, serum, moisturiser, and SPF as normal. The 7 skin method is a replacement for your single toner step — your routine structure stays the same.
